Guide
Vinyl Snobs uses conservative grading standards whenever possible. If a record falls between two grades, we assign the lower grade to set accurate customer expectations.
NM
Near Mint
Condition
Near perfect. Surface is clean with no visible marks, scratches, or scuffs. Looks essentially unplayed.
Playback
Essentially silent backgrounds. Plays flawlessly with no distortion or tracking issues.
Noise
Little to no surface noise. Any faint crackle cannot be heard above the music.
VG+
Very Good Plus
Condition
Light signs of handling. May have minor scuffs or faint hairlines visible in direct light, but no deep scratches.
Playback
Very strong playback. Slight imperfections may be audible only during the quietest passages. Strong DJ and listening copy.
Noise
Minor crackle possible in very quiet sections. Does not significantly affect the listening experience.
VG
Very Good
Condition
Visible wear from regular use. Scuffs and light scratches present. Signs of previous play and handling are clear.
Playback
Plays through without skips. Surface noise is noticeable but the music remains audible and enjoyable.
Noise
Consistent background crackle, especially in quiet sections. Does not overpower the music.
G+
Good Plus
Condition
Heavy cosmetic wear. Significant scratches and marks visible across the surface.
Playback
Playable throughout. Consistent audio imperfections. Occasional light skips or pops possible.
Noise
Loud, consistent crackle and pops throughout. Music is still identifiable and playable.
G
Good
Condition
Rough condition. Deep scratches, groove wear, and heavy surface damage clearly visible.
Playback
Loud surface noise throughout. May have skips, loops, or significant tracking issues in worn sections.
Noise
Heavy surface noise throughout. Music may be difficult to hear clearly in places.
F
Fair
Condition
Damaged condition. Major scratches, scuffs, or marks that will directly affect playback.
Playback
Unreliable playback. Skipping, looping, and distortion likely throughout.
Noise
Extremely loud surface noise. Music is severely impacted and difficult to follow.
P
Poor
Condition
Severely damaged. May be cracked, badly warped, or have chunks missing from the grooves.
Playback
Mostly or entirely unplayable. For display, reference, or parts only.
Noise
Record noise dominates entirely or the record cannot complete playback.
